Jesus is King so I ought to worship Him, but I want to worship Him because of what He has done for me! Let's hear about it in Psalm 8.

This podcast is not designed to replace your personal devotion time with God. There are hundreds of resources out there on how to walk daily with Jesus. Our recommendation is to simply start with one of the Gospels of Jesus in the New Testament and read few verses each day. Use the Replicate Ministries HEAR Journaling Method to respond: Highlight what stands out to you, explain what it means, apply it to your life, and respond in obedience.

Episode 4: Psalm 8
O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man
that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower
than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.
You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Why has God created humanity? Why do we exist? In this Psalm, we have our answer. This psalm beautifully sings our chief aim, “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” We proclaim it and sing it and we make it know in all the earth that God is great!
This might very well be one of the significant daily acts we practice day in and day out, to sing and praise the majestic name of God, rehearsing His glory and grace in Jesus. But this isn’t just an adult affair the writer says, “You have set your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength…”
What's more, is that even at the very start we see that God is our God. He’s not the distant creator, obscure and unknown… No, he is “our” Lord. Crazy right? Even the writer asks, “the creator of the stars in the sky, what is man that God is mindful of him?” It is both baffling, and beautiful. The God whose glory fills the whole earth is “OUR” God. Derek Kidner says it best, “His praise is chanted on high, yet acceptably echoed from the cradle and the nursery. It is the theme of the whole psalm in miniature.”
What is sometimes difficult is that we often elevate or exalt things over and against the glory of God. Sports, music, art, and creation find all their charisma, beauty, and mystique from the Creator of all things, but are often times elevated over Him. Our hearts trade the giver for his gifts. This shouldn’t be so. This psalm is telling us the glories of the father.
If you are listening to this podcast as a family, take time out of your day and literally dance and sing to King Jesus. You don’t need any instruments or skills just play some worship from you phone or from streaming app. Take time before dinner or before bed to thank God for all the things He’s given you and your family.
My question to you this week is how are you elevating and exalting Jesus at home? Are their things that you’ve elevated over and against Jesus? If so what plans are you making to praise Jesus over all things this week? Read this psalm again and pray that God might reveal to you His glory and as a family praise him together in song and in prayer!
